Questions and Answers

There a number of questions you may have about what you need to get a web site up and running and we have covered a number of common questions below.

  • How do I make my web pages? This is where Visual Impressions Web Design team comes in.
A web designer will transform your ideas from ideas into a visual presentation by using written scripts and graphics. (see our examples)

  • Where are my pages stored? You need an ISP [internet service provider] to "host" your web pages. The charges for this range from free to an average of $20 per month. Visual Impressions Web Design can advise you on this and help you decide which ISP and plan would be best for you. (more on ISP's)

  • How will everyone find my site?   We offer free advice on web site promotion and search engine registration.
If you wish to advertise your site then we submit your Content Pages to leading search engines, including:  Alta Vista , AOL Search , Google , Hotbot.
  • How do I get a domain name? Visual Impressions can create your address for your web site (a domain name) so that people can find your site. e.g. www.visualimpressions.co.nz . Your domain name is an important part of the web site and requires a lot of thought. This name needs to be registered and set up so that anyone typing it in gets directed to your web site. Again Visual Impressions will do all this for you.

  • How much will it cost? This is the most important question and unfortunately there is no exact answer because every web site is different.
Now that we know what your site will be like we can work out a price for your site. If your site roughly compairs in size to the packages we have available then this will be a good price guide.
If your site is different from our packages then we will customise a package for you.

  • How will everyone find my site?   We offer free advice on web site promotion and search engine registration.
If you wish to advertise your site then we submit your Content Pages to leading search engines, including:  Alta Vista , AOL , Google , Hotbot.

  • How long does it take to develop a web site?    The time frame for this step is largely dependent on the site that you request.
The first day we will discuss with you what you are after and what audience you wish to target.

Next we will design a basic layout of the look of your site from the information that you provided to us and discuss this with you to ensure you are pleased with the design and look of it.
This step usually takes about a week, but could take two to three weeks for a large complicated site.

After you have approved a graphical interface for your project and we have "fine-tuned" your preferred layout, we proceed to producing a fully functional web site. The time frame for this step is largely dependent on your project and the amount of content available.
As is true of every step in the process, we can and will provide an anticipated date of delivery when we receive your content.
Generally, we find that this step takes about two weeks for smaller projects and up to four to eight weeks for larger, more technically complex projects.

  • How do I keep my site current? Visual Impressions can help with updates and minor enhancements to your site on a time and materials basis.
Major redevelopments will be costed as separate projects and an estimate provided.

  • How do I know if anyone has been to my site?  Your initial tell tale sign may be the increase in business or comments about your site.
But the better way to tell is to enable stats on your site. see the Statistics page for more information.
